I can’t. The cuteness. It hurts.
My husband is a carb hater, unfortunate for this carb lover. I love muffins. Blueberry muffins, any-other-fruit-muffins, muffin tops, love them all.
In order to get Roo on my muffin band wagon I looked up one of his favorite chef’s recipe for Blueberry Muffins. A Mayretta local (whoop!), Alton Brown’s Blueberry Muffins:
They came up perfectly fluffy and damn if homemade isn’t always better. Here’s the full recipe kiddos.
Quite possibly the worst food photographer:
This made me laugh, and laugh and laugh.
The Minnesota State Fair is unbelievably epic. It draws thousands of visitors, local news stations set-up shop for the 12-days, and it has about anything fried you can imagine.
I said it’s great to be a GEORGIA bulldawg! Time to get my College Pick ‘Ems together.
I think everyone my age asked, “Am I too old to watch the VMAs?” Apart from cringing at some of the dancing (can we call it that?), I did tear right up when Blue came on stage to give Beyonce her award. Too sweet.
USA Open is here. Trying not to get my panties in a bunch since Rafa had to miss out.
Seems most of the country is stuck in swamp weather. Sticky and humid. This week should be our first nice break. Not a a lot you can enjoy outside with a new babe/tiny space heater in this weather, but we managed to have a stellar weekend with some good friends.
Hello game week in Athens! Oh how I miss North Campus…and all the football players. mwhahaha
HOW is it almost September?!
You may have heard about “paying it forward” or “random acts of kindness.” I’m currently participating in my own “Gratitude Project.”
I’m expressing the thought of thankfulness or simply passing on a smile or kind word to friends, families and strangers.
After having Rhys, I was overwhelmed by the friends and family that sent cards, tiny presents, well wishes, or private messages. All of these kind acts made me feel almost overwhelmed at the generosity of others. A moment of, “What did I do to deserve this?” After a sweet neighbor dropped off a homemade dish while Andrew was out of town to help me out, I was blown away at how simple acts of kindness can completely shift a mood or thought. This neighbor is one that we have only talked to every night when we walk around our neighborhood.
I immediately started passing it on by picking up the phone, sending cards, baked goods (my specialty) well wishes, etc. It has become contagious. Too often we get caught up in being busy that we never stop and look around or even try to be personal with others. Everything seems to be happening online, something I’m certainly guilty of. It’s important to take time to engage and spread joy.
This isn’t something everyone has to do, but maybe take a moment or two out of your day to give thanks to someone else or remember how small gestures mean big things to others. Just yesterday a Starbucks in Florida had folks pay it forward for 11 hours!
Johnny Douche Canoe strikes again. Seriously – COMPOSURE. I pray he’s peaked.
I finally had to jump on the icy bandwagon.
When Andre left Brooke, Tiger with Vaughn, Verlander with Upton…someone do a study on how chicks can mess with the game. Rory McIlroy: Broken engagement ‘not directly related’ to golf hot streak.
Ok, these kid things are ‘pensive! How much it costs to raise a babe.
Honest Slogans – honestly hilarious.
Obsessed with these sermons.
A big underdog moved forward in the Little League World Series, but it’s still hard to see kids cry. Proud to hear from the coach of the team that lost: ‘You’re all my boys’: Coach inspires team after Little League World Series loss.
Happy one monthiversary to our newest boy, Rhys.
A wind in the shadow, a whale song in the deep.
Turn ons: Sleeping, eating, squishes from his big brother.
Turn offs: Gas. When mom watches E! News and listens to pop music.
Little sack of sugar I could eat you up. Rhys is of course getting bigger by the second. He sleeps a ton, maybe not so much at night. He has light-er eyes than Ryder’s chocolate drops and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he has a bit of me in that sweet face.
Rhys is along for the ride. There is a lot you learn in round one that helps you take it a bit easier in round two. Don’t get me wrong, if you checked my Google history I’d look certifiable. I can’t remember crap from when Ryder was this little. I swear I’ve done this before. Good news, Ryder is constantly running around him providing entertainment and loads of head rubbing (it’s the safest part we’ve taught Ryder he can touch). Andrew has the patience of a saint with the boys, and he’s taught me to chill out. Shocker, I’m the panicky one.
It’s hard to not compare my men; Roo and I find ourselves saying a few things here and there. Like, Ryder seemed more beastly, Rhys is slim with crazy long legs… Ryder was already popping out of 3 month clothes and this guy is just getting into them. Getting through the first month with a newbie is the hardest (to me). From here on out, they start to become more predictable, and the best part, their personality takes off. Rhys truly is the coolest kid. Blessed. In love. I am trying to absorb as much baby-time as I can. It’s the puppy phase, where they’re wobbly and let you hold them all the time. I smell his head way too often.
Throwing down the honest card – it’s hard to go anywhere without wondering if the time bomb you’re walking around with will go off. You can’t get out as much, you don’t see as many friends. But, this too shall pass. I love babies, but these first weeks are hard. I’m also letting Andrew get all the sleep he can. I know most moms ask for help in the night, but I’m home all day and have a chance to nap. Andrew gets up with Rye in the morning, and Roo is loads more fun to be around when he’s well rested. Aren’t we all. This is teamwork people.
There are no perfect babies, life is messy. And I don’t want to rush this.
Having a hard time letting go? 7 Questions to Ask When Cleaning Out Your Closet. Big fan of #4 – Is this currently in style, and/or does this still accurately represent my style?
Gives me chills – Justin Timberlake Accepts #StrikeOutALS Ice Bucket Challenge from Boston Marathon Bombing Survivors. One of the best viral stories I’ve seen in some time.
Drunk History is priceless. This would make an awesome party game.
Don’t go through my burned CDs, it’s like seeing my soul. Neural Nostalgia: Why do we love the music we heard as teenagers?
Zane gets a new home on Nat Geo for his new show, “Chug.” Tall order to compete with the indie success of “Three Sheets.”
Jimmy Fallon’s tribute to Robin Williams will make you laugh until you cry.
Football season is finally underway. I don’t care if it’s pre-season, it’s something. Minnesota’s beloved Vikings are kicking off their season at the University of Minnesota’s stadium. Goodbye indoor toasty dome, hello outdoor weather. This will be interesting. Turns out I’m two degrees separated from a big stud on the team. Small world.
If you know me, you’re probably pregnant. I have more than 7 friends expecting, all due early next year. Did I miss this trend? Good for 2015.
This weekend we kicked-off the weekend with a quick date, nothing white wine can’t fix. When babies can sleep in car seats (anywhere!) it’s a beautiful thing. Beast babe Rye was done in like 4 months:/
We hit up a local lake for the weekend, fed the flowers and the ducks.
And kudos to myself. I made it last week on my own while the hubs was
vacationing on business in the south. I have super powers. Some days were easier than others (see Rye’s morning 3-alarm fire below), but everyone still has ten fingers and ten toes. Ryder is in school, which is fair to the both of us. No way on this green earth could I entertain/educate him all day and still bond with the newbie.
Folks already talking about fall? We did have our windows open last night…
